Our straws contain nothing more than Sun, Coastal Winds, and a great idea. Reeds are a sustainable and quick-growing resource that we can harvest each year. Every single PAIO drinking straw is therefore a piece of pure nature that is processed without any adhesives or other additives and that, after use, decomposes naturally.
But our straws are so much more than just sustainable. PAIO scores more points in every aspect compared to the alternatives. Steel becomes hot or cold – but PAIO doesn’t. Paper gets sticky and softens – but PAIO doesn’t. And straws made from corn starch often have their very own peculiar taste. The experience of generations is behind PAIO products.
When sailor Matthäus Hiss laid the foundation stone for the company known today as Hiss Reet, this natural resource was still reserved primarily for use in the well-known thatched roofs. Six generations later, the family business has grown into the largest reed merchant in Germany and become an expert in the processing of the natural material. Matthias Hiss’s descendant Tomas used his collective expertise in reeds to establish the PAIO brand.
Tom Hiss' father, Peter Hiss, was an avid sailor and was already trading in reeds for roofing.
Today, reeds represent a cozy atmosphere, a love of the sea, and a natural way of living.
What could be more fitting than complementing this feeling with a cool beverage? This is why PAIO straws are selected by hand and processed using our purely physical hygiene process we developed ourselves. This ensures that the natural characteristics of the plant are retained – without any of its own flavour.
